Couple of Sports, Playlist

Playlist – Florida

Verbose as we are, there is no way we can spend the next year constantly yelling talking to each other. Terrible as it may sound to the ears of an outsider, singing as loudly as possible is a frequent occurrence in The Highland Flinger (THF). We will make a playlist of what we’re slappin’ the air bass to. Each list will contain songs from artists/bands from the state or will allude to the state in some way.

1. Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine – Rhythm Is Gonna Get You
The rhythm not only got us, but then led us into a large wedding-style conga line!

2. The Beach Boys – Kokomo
FACT: While many places listed in this song (Key Largo, Montego) do in fact exist, Kokomo does not. MUCH BETTER FACT: The cast of Full House sang on stage with The Beach Boys in an episode, and Uncle Jesse (John Stamos) actually toured with them in real life!

3. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers – Free Fallin’
Although many of Tom Petty’s songs are about the West Coast and LA, he’s a Florida Gator. As for this song, it might be cliche, but when this song comes on the radio it’s hard not to belt it out like you’re Jerry Maguire.

4. Flo-Rida – Club Can’t Handle Me
Takes us back to our Santa Bar Crawl days in Santa Monica, CA. After being sweater-profiled for allegedly spilling a table full of drinks, Mark was unceremoniously ejected from Circle Bar. In other news, Tramar Dillard aka Flo Rida is from Carol City, Florida.

5. KC & The Sunshine Band – That’s The Way (I Like It)
Another “DUH” revelation here. Of course a group going with the title “The Sunshine Band” is going to be from “The Sunshine State”.

6. Limp Bizkit – Rollin’
On the “life regrets” front, Jackie dressed as one of the girls in this song’s music video for a Halloween Dance as a freshman in high school. A “Bizkette” if you will. Shameful. She went to Lids, got the proper hat, then took it back the next day. Double shame, but why the Hell would she keep a red and black Yankees hat?

7. The Lonely Island featuring T-Pain – I’m On A Boat
While Andy Samberg, Kiv Schaffer, nor Jorm Taccone, are from Florida, T-Pain is. From Saturday Night Live, this song is all about the video:

8. Bubba Sparxxx featuring the Ying Yang Twins – Ms. New Booty
Aside from this obviously amazing song title, this song reminds us of two things: Rick’s in Ann Arbor and our friend Andrea. If there’s a song that reminds us of you, you too can get a shout out on our playlists!

9. Trick Daddy – In Da Wind
A throwback to Jackie’s high school days, and a song that she inexplicably knows by heart. Jackie was clearly straight thuggin’ in high school!

10. Dashboard Confessional – Hands Down
Even the mere mention of Dashboard Confessional sends Jackie into a tizzy. “It’s my guilty pleasure,” she said. “I lept out of my seat in excitement when I remember we could put them on this list. I’ve seen them 3 times in concert. I could name nearly every song and choosing one was really hard.”

11. Matchbox Twenty – 3 AM
The “I Only Wanna Be With You” station on Pandora radio LOVES this song. And so do we.

12. Creed – Higher
While it may be embarassing that Jackie was once a Bizkette, Mark actually likes Creed a little. He claims that this song is one of the best “sports highlight montage song” of all time.

13. Sean Kingston – Fire Burning
This song reminds us of our friends’ kids, who first wondered if firemen were going to put out the fire burning on the dance floor, and then wondered if a dreadlocked homeless man was in fact Sean Kingston, the singer of their now favorite song.

14. Backstreet Boys – All I Have To Give
The Backstreet Boys originated in Orlando, FL. Jackie still remembers the first time that she ever heard a BSB song, which was in Florida, and she paid $7 for the single of this song on a CD at the nearby strip mall. Oh the things that we remember from our childhood…

15. Blondie – Rapture
With the date of the Mayan prophecy for the end of time being this year (12/21/2012 to be exact), there’s already been a lot of chatter about rapture in recent months. In what I’m sure is no coincidence AT ALL, The Jersey Shore‘s Snooki is pregnant with a little Snooklet. What’s the due date you ask? December 21st, 2012 of course.
